Website Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is an internationally established university with a 160-year history rooted in the Bauhaus tradition, combining science and technology with art and design. This approach characterises the Faculties of Architecture & Urbanism, Civil Engineering, Art & Design, and Media. In addition to their subject-specific functions, the faculties are also committed to interdisciplinary collaboration and to forging links between art, science and practice.
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Faculty of Media is currently seeking to strengthen the research areas of Digital Engineering and Digital Transformation by inviting applications for the
W3 professorship position in
»Mobile Graphics«
beginning on October, 1, 2025.
The professorship in Mobile Graphics is part of the Faculty of Media’s Computer Science Department. It addresses the core field of mobile computer-graphics systems in research and teaching. Potential research topics include software, systems, and algorithms for mobile or ubiquitous graphical and multimodal applications, for example in the context of mobile/pervasive games or augmented/mixed reality.
Qualified applicants should have an international standing in several of the aforementioned fields; have outstanding research potential and substantial experience in the acquisition and delivery of third-party-funded projects. In this context, setting-up an independent research group in the subject area of the professorship is expected. A willingness to engage in cross-faculty research and interdisciplinary teaching, for example with the Faculty of Art & Design, is desirable; ideally, the successful applicant
will already have experience in interdisciplinary collaboration.
Courses offered by the professorship can include software development for mobile systems, design and development of mobile interfaces, computer gaming, computer graphics and animation. The successful candidate is expected to teach basic computer science courses (e.g. algorithms and data structures), and to offer these in conjunction with the study programme in Digital Engineering. They are also expected to offer courses as part of the two Master‘s programmes in Computer Science for Digital Media and Human-Computer Interaction. They are expected to be able to hold classes in both English and German. In cases knowledge of German is initially insufficient, the successful applicant should be prepared to make up this deficit within three years, to be able to teach in German and actively participate in (German spoken) University-level committees. The teaching load is 9 LVS.
The general employment requirements pertain to § 84 on the Thuringian Higher Education Act (ThürHG). Particular requirements are a relevant doctorate, proof of pedagogical aptitude through extensive university teaching experience, and proof of additional academic achievements such as a post-doctoral qualification or equivalent, or an evaluated junior professorship or equivalent.
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar places great importance on diversity and equal opportunities. We are committed to maintaining a family-friendly and non-discriminatory working environment and to pursuing a human resources policy which promotes gender equality and diversity. For this reason, we encourage applications from people from a wide variety of backgrounds and with diverse ranges of experience and biographies. The university’s strategic goals include increasing the proportion of women in teaching and research, and we therefore expressly welcome applications from qualified female
academics. Equally qualified people with disabilities will be given preferential consideration.
The university expects applicants to be willing to relocate to Weimar or the immediate vicinity.
The university will gladly support you in relocating your place of residence. Applications should be submitted by 31.12.2023 and should include the usual documentation (letter of motivation, curriculum vitae, references, certificates, list of publications and three selected publications).
